Fort Hill State Memorial is a nature preserve containing one of the best
preserved Indian hilltop enclosures in North America. The Hopewell
Indians (100 B.C.-A.D. 500) constructed the 1 1/2 mile long earthwork
hilltop enclosure as well as at least two ceremonial buildings and
probably a village in the Brush creek Valley.
Lying at the western edge of the Allegheny Plateau, immediately south of
the glacial boundary, this hilly area contains an impressive diversity
of bedrock, soils, flora, and fauna. There are 11 miles of hiking trails
at the 1,200 acre preserve as well as a picnic area. The museum reopened
in the fall of 2000 after an extensive renovation. New exhibits include
a variety of hands-on and interactive, multimedia displays depicting the
geology, flora and fauna of Fort Hill..
LOCATION
Fort Hill is located off of State Route 41 on Township Road 256, five
miles north of Sinking Springs and three miles south of Cynthiana in
Highland County.

This microbox is a continuation of ~
Team Gray Wolf's
BARC 'n' Howl letterbox
~Please bring a pen,and stamp pad ~
You will find the Wetlands letterbox at the Blue Ash Recreation Center,
4433 Cooper Rd., Blue Ash.
The clues begin at the entrance to the Nature Park, found at the
Southwest Corner of the Rec Center's plot. The entrance is marked by a
sign on the right, with announcements above and a map below.
Enter the trail, and you will immediately come to a fork in the trail
marked by a big yellow PLEASE.
At this fork, stay right. You will pass a picnic pavilion on your left,
a playground and rest rooms on your right. Continue past the trail on
the right, just beyond the place where music can be heard on Summer
nights. Continue past the trails on both left and
right, marked by a plaque commemorating the establishment of the Nature
Park.
Go past dinosaurs on your left, and a rock wall, a police car, a Twin
Flyer, and the General Store on your right.
At the next picnic pavilion (on your left), the paved trail makes a
sharp turn to the right and down a hill.
There is a trail paved with wood chips dead ahead - take it.
There will be a trail on the left, opposite the horseshoe pits - Ignore
it!!
The trail moves ahead and curves slightly to the right. You will come to
a "T" intersection, where you can only go North or West. Take Horace
Greeley's advice to the "Young Man".
Down the path you have taken, you will find a circular clearing with a
small tree in the center, and a wooden bench on the far side.
Take a seat on the bench.....rest if you wish ...
Look to your Right...you will see a large tree on the right side of the
trail about 5 paces away.
(a pace =2 steps; about 5 feet )
~ Bonus ~
Look behind that tree (under some BARC ) and you might find :
Team Gray Wolf's BARC 'n'Howl L'box.
Now on to the Wetlands !
